Music that fell from the sky
Meet our clients who trusted Mind The Wax to press their music on vinyl!
Mononome is a musician/producer hailing from Thessaloniki, Greece. I know about him since his breakthrough album “Come Close” which was released in 2012. The success of that album led to multiple tours across Europe, playing festivals and venues sharing the stage with Wax Tailor, Chinese Man, Thievery Corporation, Nightmares On Wax, DJ Krush, Ras G and Gramatik.
Releasing music under the moniker since 2011, Mononome soon accomplished to become one of the key figures of his generation within the European beat-producing scene. He managed to create a characteristic sound, blurring the lines between future beats and old school.
His work has been praised and received airplay by radio stations such as L.A-based “KCRW”, Paris-based “NOVA” and “Le Mellotron” and has been featured on the “BandCamp Daily” column of the renowned platform.
His latest album “The Boy That Fell From The Sky” was released recently by the German label S1X Music and it was pressed on vinyl via Mind The Wax.

“I found myself drawing inspiration from the state our planet has been in these past years regarding social injustice, climate crisis, war, racism and extreme capitalism. Created “The Boy That Fell From The Sky” as a concept album basically. It regards the story of basically any alienated person in today’s society where all of the above have entered a state of normalization.”

““The Boy” being the main character, the concept places him as a visitor and a first-time observer of all of the inequity humankind has been drowned in, how the system of basic human values is nowadays almost inverted, corrupted and non-functional, and how obsolete living ethically has become, leading him to a decision of going away and choosing never to return again.”
“Lack of traveling and digging for records because of the outbreak became a problem for me since I’ve been sample-based only for more than a decade. But, I decided to turn that into a challenge. It felt like the perfect time to stir away from sampling for a while. “

““The Boy That Fell From The Sky” was crafted using no samples at all and had me going back to getting acquainted with instrument playing again. Keys, synths, bass e.t.c. Cellist Isabelle Bouché and music producer/guitarist Transparent Man also contributed on two of the tracks of the album.”

The album is pressed on white, 140 grams vinyl. The sleeve is printed on matte reversed side cardboard. The record comes in a black poly-lined inner sleeve and shrink-wrapped.
“The album was recorded during the months of March and May 2020, mixed by Drips Zacheer and mastered by Blanka at Kasablanka Studios in France. Isabelle Bouché on cello for tracks 1 and 9 and Transparent Man on guitars for track 1. The cover artwork, art direction and supervision of all merchandise was handled by Jola818. The vinyl was released by and with the precious help of S!X-Music on May 13th 2022.”
