Shango Records established back in May 2015 by Pale Penguin, Freddie Wyatt and Larry SKG in Thessaloniki, Greece. The label aimed to deliver top class Afrotropical music for the dancefloor and for home listening in combination with exceptional graphic design and merchandise. Through the years Shango managed to become one of the most important Downtempo/Organic/World labels worldwide. Shango offers a variety of singles, EPs, albums, compilations and special tribute EP from Greek and international artists.
The label gained strong support in the scene by various blogs, sites and magazines, airplays by worldwide radios and djs, big chart success. It has been credited as one of the best Electronic labels in terms of music & graphic design combination. “Perseus EP” is the third limited vinyl release of Shango Records and second in the series of EPs inspired by Greek mythology. Quality Aussie producer The Oddness delivers two solid Downtempo/Organic original track full of great vibes and mysterious atmospheres inspired by the myth of Perseus.
“I am a Music producer and performer from Melbourne, Australia.
My debut live set was in 2018 and have since performed at some of Australia’s premium festivals including Rainbow Serpent, Let Them Eat Cake and ChiWowWah Town. I’ve recently been joined by Multi Instrumentalists Dylan Jarred and Timmus, performing as a 3-piece band.
My production has led me to be able to release on labels like Shango, Sol Selectas and Eskimo Recordings and have just released my third Album through my own label Smash Bang.”
“Approaching the Perseus EP I wanted to take two different events in the story of Perseus and create a cinematic soundtrack to those events.
The first track Andromeda’s Rescue is goes from the darkness of Andromeda’s imminent death from the Sea Serpent Cetus with the deep drones and ocean sounds and then works its way through to the triumph of her rescue by Perseus, using orchestral stabs and a more uplifting undertone.”
“Facing Atlas was inspired by Classic film scores usually soundtracking final battles and heroes facing off, Big Drums and Stabbing strings.”
“Both of the tracks followed a similar process, Building an atmosphere using drones and pads from my Moog Sub37 and playing around with chord progressions and melodies that fit the story.
Most of the other production is done in the box in Ableton with some of the melodies and bass lines played through Ableton Push. The drum fills and percussion parts are from custom drum racks I’ve designed and played on my Alesis Sample pad.”
